Lighting Techniques
Lighting can be used creatively all around your property to help create a certain ambiance at night as well as increase security and visibility for you and your family. There are a variety of ways that lighting can be used to emphasize features of your landscaping.
Uplighting Technique
This lighting technique is employed to create a dramatic effect for a variety of elements for your home and garden. In this case we use fixtures to direct light upwards onto trees, shrubbery, statues, or even your home, walls and pool surroundings. This is a great technique because it is both functional and a very stylistic choice. It’s definitely a less subtle technique and has a tendency to really brighten up a property.
Shadowing Technique
More of a general term, shadowing can be done in a variety of different ways. It is a lighting strategy where fixtures are placed to highlight specific aspects of your home. We use light in conjunction with the surrounding walls, foliage, other plants and even water to produce dramatic shadows and other effects that highlight the beauty of your home and landscaping. This is a highly stylistic technique and isn’t quite as functional, but the final effect it produces can be quite stunning.
Back Lighting
This popular lighting technique involves coming from the foliage, flowers, trees or shrubs from behind. By doing this you add an elegant look, create unique shadows, and get some functional light coming onto the lawn as well. This is a great option for someone who is a bit torn between style or function.
Objects to Light
The objects you already have throughout your property can help you decide which type of lighting is appropriate. Properly designed and strategically placed lighting can be used to accentuate objects in your landscaping, and create ambiance at night.
Pool and Waterfall Lighting
If you have one, waterfalls are an excellent lighting opportunity. When you strategically light waterfalls and other bodies of water, you refract the light and allow it to illuminate a greater area while also softening the light and giving it more of a “glow” effect. If you do have a pool we highly suggest proper lighting, not only will it look fantastic but it’s also an important safety measure to keep someone from accidentally stepping into the water at night.
Architectural Lighting
Different architectural aspects of your home can be accentuated with the right lighting. We can direct lighting to emphasize your porch, columns, walls, eaves and roof lines. You’ve put time and effort into making your home beautiful, why not emphasize it with the proper lighting?
Patio and Pathway Lighting
Want your patios, sidewalks and other pathways on your landscape to stand out at night? Path lighting provides safety to walkways and adds lighting accents to your property. In addition to providing dramatic effects, pathway lighting increases security & safety around your home.
Lighting for Plants, Bushes, Shrubs and Trees
There are many ways to make trees, bushes & shrubs look stunning. Properly designed & placed lighting helps your landscaping stand out in the night and give your home that feeling of protection and seclusion. In the winter or fall when foliage isn’t at its peak, lighting can help make up for the lack of leaves and flowers around the property.
