Conserving water is extremely important to the environment, as well as humankind. We depend on water to live, as do all human things, and this makes it incredibly important to preserve. Did you know that there are incredible amounts of items you can do to make sure you conserve more water than ever before?
Especially in the summer, when it gets a bit drier in New England, it is still important to watch water usage, so let’s look at some of the different ways you can conserve water during the warmer seasons.
- Watering Times: Watering in the morning early before the sun comes up, or after the sun goes down is perfect, as the evaporation will be kept to a minimum. Since there are minimal sun and heat, there is less of a chance of the water going to waste and therefore, you can avoid problems with excess water usage.
- Shorter Showers: By shortening your showers from 10 minutes to 5 minutes, you can get huge results in water savings. Image how much water you will be saving if you take a 20-minute shower.
- Use Dishwasher: While it may seem like the better option to hand wash dishes, it saves water to use a dishwasher. It does use a bit more energy, so there is a tradeoff when it comes to sustainability.
- Cover the Pool: One thing you probably never thought of was that your pool most likely evaporates significantly when it is extremely hot out. It may be beneficial to cover it in some way when the sun is out so that it doesn’t evaporate too much.
