What To Do if You’re Sprinklers Aren’t Turning Back On After Winter:
Check the Water Meter to Make Sure It’s On
You never know— your water might not even be on. It’s a good idea to make sure this is on before you run through the next steps.
Make Sure You Properly Activated Your System After Winterization
Did you complete all the steps to turn your system back on after the winter? Or did you properly deactivate your system before the winter? If not, this may be why your system isn’t turning back on.
Check for Leaks
Your water meter’s leak indicator will let you know if your system has any leaks.
Check Your Valves
After the winter, your sprinkler valves may be blocked by build-up, preventing your sprinklers from working. Check each valve and clean if necessary.
Check Your System’s Controller
Check your controller and, if it has a display, see if it’s operating properly. Make sure your wiring is connected and working. If need be, reset your system and put in your water schedule again.
Look for Signs of Damage on Your Sprinklers
It’s possible your sprinklers could’ve suffered some damage during the winter. Make sure to check for any signs of major wear and tear, including cracked pipes or valves.
Consider Getting a Spring Start-Up Service for Your System
If you’ve tried all of the suggestions above and your system still isn’t working, it’s best to leave it alone. Rather than potentially creating more problems, you can consider calling your local irrigation company and inquiring about a spring start-up service. The service includes inspecting your sprinklers for any damage, identifying potential issues, and making any necessary repairs. It’ll also make sure your sprinklers are in top shape all season long.
